According to the case materials, the police officer claimed 200 euros from the denouncer and then 400 euros to delay the investigation of an alleged case of theft. Although he would have taken the money, the policeman would not have honored his promise to halt the examination of the material under his management, and as a consequence, the person investigated for theft was detained at the airport when he entered the country.
Following the denouncement submitted to the NAC, a criminal case was initiated on the name of the policeman under Art. 324 of Criminal Code - passive corruption. His actions have been documented for a long time by the NAC and prosecutors, money transmissions being proven with video and audio, one of the transactions taking place within the Ciocana Police Inspectorate.
Currently, the police officer is detained for 72 hours, and will be placed in the NAC isolator. If found guilty, he risks up to 10 years in prison, fine and deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions.
We would like to remind that, since the beginning of the year, NAC has detained 3 police officers from the Ciocana Police Inspectorate, who are suspected of trying to cover up an alleged case of robbery. A few days ago, two other employees of the Inspectorate were detained by the Anticorruption Prosecutor`s Office and the Internal Protection and Anticorruption Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, also for claiming financial means to cover up a case of drug trafficking. Thus, in January, 6 employees of Ciocana Police Inspectorate came to the forefront of law enforcement bodies, being suspected of corruption.
In all cases, the Anticorruption Prosecutor`s Office is carrying out the criminal proceedings.
We mention that, any person shall be presumed innocent until judgement is delivered.
