A former police officer, detained for influence peddling
12.02.2021 2291 ViewsA former police officer was detained today, February 12, by the officers of the Directorate of Personnel Inspection of the GPI, together with the employees of the National Anticorruption Center and under the management of the Anticorruption Prosecution Office, in a case of influence peddling.
He is suspected of promising a man to help him get a job within the General Police Inspectorate. According to the materials of the case, the suspect allegedly claimed that he has influence over some persons with special status and that he can determine them make a favorable decision. For his services, the former police officer would have demanded and received 1900 euros.
The suspect was detained for 72 hours, currently he is in the NAC detention center. A criminal investigation for influence peddling was initiated in this case.
The detention actions were supported by the police officers from the Independent Special Forces Battalion Fulger.
To be mentioned, the suspect is in the records of the Chisinau Probation Office, for a probation period of 2 years. By the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice in 2020, he was convicted for committing similar offences, and sentenced to 9 years, not yet executed.
Currently, other criminal investigation actions are being conducted jointly with the Anticorruption Prosecution Office.
