The praetor of the Ciocana district and two police officers are investigated for corruption acts. They are suspected of collecting protection fees from economic agents
30.03.2021 35 ViewsThe praetor of the Ciocana district is under investigation of the NAC and the prosecutors of the Anticorruption Prosecution Office for corruption acts, as well as two police officers from the Ciocana Police Inspectorate. The deputy head of the Ciocana PI and a senior investigating officer are suspected of corruption facts committed in complicity with the praetor.
In fact, during the criminal investigation it was found that, between April 2020 until present, the praetor of the Ciocana district, having a prior agreement with the deputy head of the Ciocana Police Inspectorate, through a senior investigating officer, allegedly claimed and received from the economic agents, that carried out their activity by organizing the seasonal terraces in the public or private fields of the Chisinau municipality as well as the street trade, the amounts that varied between 5000 and 10 000 lei. From the information collected by the interrogators and the investigation officers of the NAC, it results that the money was perceived as the protection fees to facilitate the approval and issuance of documents that allow the activity of the economic agents.
The suspects had beed documented for several months, during which the prosecutors and the NAC officers received video and audio recordings that prove their illegal acts. The discussions between the accomplices took place inside the Ciocana Praetor’s Office and from the recordings it is clear that there was organized a scheme of extorting money from those who carry out entrepreneurial activity within their area of their competence.
The praetor together with the deputy chief of the Cionaca PI were taken to the NAC and placed in the detention center for 72 hours. They face up to 15 years in prison, a criminal fine and the deprivation of the right to hold the office for a certain period of time. Before that, the homes and offices of the praetor and the deputy chief of the Ciocana PI had been searched.
We remind that every person is presumed to be innocent until the final and irrevocable decision of the court is pronounced.
The Anticorruption Prosecution Office has instituted proceedings.
