The anticorruption prosecutors requested the University of European Studies of Moldova (UESM) administration to temporary suspend from the function the deputy dean of the Faculty of Journalism, investigated for influence peddling
16.06.2021 95 ViewsThe anticorruption prosecutors in the case of the deputy dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences from the University of European Studies of Moldova have requested to temporary suspend her from the office. The claim was sent on behalf of the rector of the UESM, and among the invoked motives in the request is the risk of influencing the witnesses. According to the jurisprudence of the European Court, the suspension from the office does not have a punitive purpose and does not violate the presumption of innocence, but has the preventive and provisional character.
The deputy dean of the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences from the University of European Studies was detained by the NAC on June 15, following a denunciation of a student. According to the whistleblower, the university lecturer allegedly demanded 3000 lei to be allowed to the final examination, the defense of her thesis.
In the whistleblowing, the student declared that she was going to defend her thesis, however after having checked the work, the deputy dean was dissatisfied with the quality of the presented material. To help her take the final exam, the woman would have offered another written thesis in exchange for 3000 lei. To avoid the direct transmission of money, the suspect allegedly suggested her student to pay for one of the loan installments of her telephone (3000 lei), contracted by her for the purchase of a telephone with a price of approximately 28,000 lei.
To document the case, on June 9, 2021, a criminal prosecution was initiated, and in the process of investigations, on June 10, the payment of the loan was traced at one of the institutions of micro crediting from the capital. The deputy dean was informed of the suspect order, later being set free, by the order of the prosecutor for health reasons. She is investigated at large and is suspected of influence peddling.
We remind, every person is presumed to be innocent until the final and irrevocable decision of the court is pronounced.
The Anticorruption Prosecution Office is conducting the criminal investigation.
