A former police officer was detained by the NAC, after he allegedly received 5 000 euros from a driver
14.12.2020 3067 ViewsA former employee of the Road Accident Investigation Department within the Police Directorate was detained by the NAC officers and anticorruption prosecutors in a case of influence peddling. He is suspected of promising a driver to help get rid of the criminal case, initiated for hitting a pedestrian and causing serious damages.
According to the materials of the case, the suspect allegedly claimed that had influence on public persons within the Prosecution Office and that he could determine them to adopt a favorable decision regarding the whistleblower. For his services, the former police officer would have demanded and received 5 000 euros.
Following special investigation measures, the suspect was detained for 72 hours and currently is in the NAC detention Center. A criminal investigation was initiated in this case for influence peddling. If found guilty, the man risks a fine from 3 000 to 4 000 conventional units or up to 6 years of prison. The criminal proceedings have shown that there are some other suspicions. The NAC officers are carrying out investigations to identify his involvement in other similar crimes.
