The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency (CARA) under the NAC has announced the freezing assets worth over 3 482 000 lei, during the previous week. These are assets of illicit origin that were seized within a criminal case, initiated for money laundering.
Thus, during the parallel financial investigations, the CARA seized assets of five residential and two non-residential buildings, amounting to almost 2 million 200 thousand lei, on a residential construction and two non-residential, in the amount of approximately 400 thousand lei, on two cars worth half a million lei and a building plot of 390 thousand lei. The total amount of frozen assets is 3,482,390 lei.
Also, during the last week, the CARA finalized 5 delegations on 5 criminal cases regarding 7 subjects; drafted 4 analytical notes on behalf of 30 persons and drafted 16 advisory opinions on the valuation of 9 real estate and 9 movable property. The CARA also attended a new meeting, along with other authorities, on identifying solutions for the repatriation of criminal assets from the UK.
We remind, that since the beginning of this year, the Criminal Assets Recovery Agency has seized assets, illegally obtained, worth over 50 million lei, but in 2020, their number reached 1,5 billion lei.
The Criminal Assets Recovery Agency is an autonomous subdivision under the NAC, specialized in conducting parallel financial investigations, freezing criminal assets, assessing, managing and estimating the value of seized criminal assets.
