Road bribery and illegal fairs between undisciplined drivers and police in Comrat. Four patrol inspectors detained in the NAC detention center for corruption16.03.2021 161 Views
Four patrol inspectors got to the detention center of the NAC, after having been documented for several months by the officers of the General Territorial Directorate South and anticorruption prosecutors. The police officers are being suspected of having claimed bribes from drivers who violated traffic rules. Thousands of lei, euro and petrol allegedly used as a bribe between officers and drivers in roadside vehicle checks.
In fact, the four police officers from the Patrol Battalion South of the GPI INSP are being investigated for passive corruption, in 5 criminal cases, and last night they were all brought to the DGT South headquarters of the NAC and were detained for 72 hours. The stakeout of the NAC officers brought indisputable evidence on the prosecutors' table, in video and audio images, which attest to the bribery claim from the drivers. Corruption cases took place in the service car of the patrol inspectors, on several routes in Comrat, when drunk drivers, without documents or who violated other traffic rules had to pay bribes in order not to be sanctioned. According to the NAC, the four policemen are being investigated for passive corruption, in five criminal cases, and last night they were all detained for 72 hours.
According to the materials of 5 cases, connected in a procedure, the police officers were caught when they demanded and received different amounts of money, but also goods. Although the amounts were insignificant, from 200 lei to 500 euros, they were systematically received, day by day, by the members of the patrol crew. The negotiations were not limited to money, being documented two cases in which the police received, in exchange for not drawing up the minutes, 20 or 30 liters of gasoline.
Prosecutors and GTD South officers of the NAC are now gathering other evidence to document the case. We remind that, a month ago, 7 other police officers from Cahul were detained, being suspected of the same corruption scheme, currently being investigated for abuse and passive corruption. If found guilty, lawmen face up to 10 years in prison, a criminal fine and deprivation of the right to hold public office. At the same time, we must mention that any person is presumed to be innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision is pronounced.
The South Office of the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office is conducting the criminal investigation.
