Three employees of the National Patrol Inspectorate (NPI) came in the sight of the NAC and the anticorruption prosecutors after they were denounced by a driver who has been forced to give them 1,000 euros bribe. According to the denouncer, the policemen had claimed the money in order not to hold him accountable for alleged violations of the Road Traffic Regulation.

In fact, on March 9, 2019, the denouncer was stopped by a crew of the NPI who alleged that the driver was in the condition of ebriety. Contrary to the indications of the alcohol test, which had been detected the presence of alcohol in the expired air, the declarant pretends that he didn't consumed alcoholic beverages. He also specified that the police didn't even carried out a record of the case, the purpose of which was to cover up the situation against a sum of money.

In order to clarify the matters, the denouncer have been appealed to a known police officer from Road accidents Division within the Chisinau Police Directorate and would have asked him to convince his colleagues that NPI alcohol test has presented wrong indications. Arrived on the spot, the police officer told him he couldn't solve the case and that he must give to the patrol inspectors 1000 euros.

NAC had been started a criminal prosecution in this case and has documented the transfer of money to the Road Accident Division employee, and then those two crew members who had stopped the denouncer on March 9th. In the morning, patrol agents were detained, and the Road Accident Division employee was announced in search after he had left the country without permission.

At this hour, searches are carried out at the homes of the suspects, but also in some offices of the police officers. All three are being investigated for passive corruption and influence peddling.

We remind that, any person shall be presumed innocent until the final and irrevocable judgement is delivered.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office is carrying out the criminal proceedings.
