1500 lei for “honour and dignity” of his colleague. A police officer from Rezina was detained by the NAC for corruption acts

A police officer from Rezina Police Inspectorate was detained in flagrante delicto by the officers of the General Territorial Directorate North of the NAC and anti-corruption prosecutors in a case of passive corruption. He allegedly extorted 1500 lei from a man in order not to sanction him for insulting another police officer.

According to the materials of the case, the suspect, employed as senior inspector at Rezina Police Inspectorate, would have claimed and received undue money in amount of 1500 lei in order not to hold the whistleblower liable for injuring the honour and dignity of his colleague. The police officer received the bribe personally, under the control of the NAC officers.

A criminal investigation was initiated in this case for passive corruption. The suspect was escorted to the headquarters of the GTD North for questioning, currently he is in the custody of the NAC for 72 hours. If found guilty, he risks a fine from 6000 to 8000 conventional units or imprisonment for up to 10 years.

We remind, that every person is presumed to be innocent until the final and irrevocable decision of the court is pronounced.
