An intermediary and a civil servant were detained, this morning, by the NAC and Balti municipal prosecutors in a case in which they are being investigated for influence peddling. The suspects allegedly claimed and received illegal remuneration from a person in exchange for influencing some officials from the Balti Office of Registration of Transport Means and Driver’s Documentation (SÎVDCA) for the issuance of a driver's license.
According to the materials of the criminal case, the suspects claimed and received 1,500 euros from the whistle-blower, claiming that they would have influence on public figures within SÎVDCA Bălți and that it could induce them to favour a candidate for obtaining a category B driver's license in the exams. After not honouring their promise, they decided to return the amount received - a fact documented by the NAC in a criminal case initiated under art. 326 of the criminal code - "trafficking peddling".
This morning, the NAC officers under the direction of the prosecutors of the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office searched the homes and cars of the suspects. Evidence relevant to the case was taken from the scene, including information carriers and several sets of candidates' documents for driver's license with sums of money attached. Both individuals were detained for 72 hours.
The actions are taking place under the procedural leadership of the prosecutors of the Balti Municipal Prosecutor's Office.
