An official, investigated by the NAC and AP, sentenced to 5 years in prison with a suspended sentence and fined 250 000 lei for committing 6 episodes of passive corruption

The Chisinau Court, Buiucani headquarters, pronounced the sentence of conviction regarding a pedologist from the State Enterprise " The Institute of Design for Territory Organisation ", who was incriminated with committing six episodes of passive corruption. The court ordered, by partial cumulation of the sentences, a sentence of 5 years in prison (suspended for a probationary period of 3 years), a fine of 250 000 lei and deprivation of the right to hold public office for a period of 6 years.

According to the evidence accumulated by the National Anti-corruption Centre (NAC) and the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office (AP), the defendant, together with other employees of the State Enterprise " The Institute of Design for Territory Organisation " between April and June 2021, allegedly demanded and received money from individuals and representatives of companies, in exchange for reducing the soil's creditworthiness in official pedological reports, which were essential for establishing the value and potential of the land.

The criminal case was sent to court in November 2024, targeting 4 employees of the institution, but because the defendant admitted his guilt, the case was disjoined with regard to him, with the other 3 defendants being tried in separate proceedings.

To guarantee the execution of the fine, the court maintained the seizure of the money in the amount of 5,000 euros, seized during the search of the defendant's home.

The sentence is not final, it can be appealed to the Central Court of Appeal, within 15 days.

Note: A person accused of committing a crime shall be presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court decision.
