Two employees of the Environmental Protection Inspectorate, detained by the NAC for a bribe of 60000 lei
17.02.2020 918 ViewsAn inspector from the central apparatus of the Environmental Protection Inspectorate and another from the Forestry Fund's Control Division, Protected Natural Areas and Green Spaces were detained, a short time ago, by the NAC and anticorruption prosecutors. The men are suspected to have received 60,000 lei from the head of a forest bypass to overlook the violations detected during the checks.
According to the investigation materials, the public officials would have inspected Causeni Forect District at the beginning of the November 2019, identifying several irregularities. However, in order not to sanction the head of the district and the vice-head, they would have demanded 54 000 lei, and subsequently another 6000 lei not to indicate the detected deviations and to issue the Act of Coordination of the Cuts of the Main Products for the year 2020.
A criminal prosecution was initiated in this case on active corruption, the money being passed in several instalments under the NAC control. Today, the officials have been detained as the result of searches carried out in the car, work offices and at their homes, where a part of the claimed money was found.
They have been detained for 72 hours and risk up to 10 years of imprisonment, in case they are found guilty. We remind, that every person is presumed to be innocent until the final and irrevocable decision of the court is pronounced.
